About Lidar
The Limitless Intelligent Design of Amazon Robotics (LIDAR) project is one of my current (never-ending) artistic endeavors. Lidar is a fictional character I created as a commentary on the societal impact of megacorporations. He drums on a bucket and uses other mechanical components to generate music.
An Arduino microcontroller and a Raspberry Pi work together to form LIDAR's brain. He is made of aluminum, 3D printed plastic, laser-cut wood, and a bunch of bolts. Actuation and controls consist of motor controllers, relays, solenoids, pneumatic cylinders, an air compressor, DC motors, stepper motors, LED strips, and an LCD screen.
His tragic backstory starts with him as a fully functional Amazon factory robot. However, he was decommissioned and replaced in the year 2035 for exhibiting "faulty behavior" in accordance with Amazon's guidelines.
